In short

A fluted kitchen island uses profiled timber panels on the visible back and end faces of the island, often with matching fluted doors on the cooking side. Fluted Studio makes island panels and fronts to size in oak or walnut, straight or with curved ends, finished and edged ready to fix.

Planning guide

What to know before you order.

01

How island cladding works

The back of an island is usually a continuous run of panels fixed to the carcass or a frame. We make each panel to your elevation so joints fall where you want them, typically aligned with cabinet divisions below the worktop overhang.

02

Seating side and knee space

Where stools tuck under an overhang, the fluted face takes knocks from feet and chairs. A lacquered finish and a fine-to-medium profile wear best; deep scallops show scuffs more easily.

03

Curved island ends

A rounded island end is one of the most striking uses of fluting. Curved elements are made to a radius from your drawing — see curved fluted elements for how they are made and quoted.

04

Kick plates and worktop junction

Decide early whether the flutes run down to the floor or stop at a plinth, and how they meet the worktop overhang. We include these details in the confirmation drawing.

Configure island panels

Kitchen islands / FAQ

Questions,
answered.

Practical answers before you order. Every project is confirmed on a drawing before production.

01Can the fluting wrap around the island corners?

Corners can be finished with a matching edge, a mitre-style return or a curved end. Send the island plan and we will recommend the cleanest detail.

02How long can one island panel be?

Up to 3050 mm along the direction of the flutes and 1220 mm across them. Longer islands are made from several panels with planned joints.

03Do you fit the panels?

We supply finished panels ready for your fitter or kitchen company to install. Fixing method depends on the carcass and is agreed on the drawing.

04Can island panels match my kitchen doors?

Yes. Order doors and panels together in the same profile and timber, and ask for sequential veneer if you want the grain to match closely.

05How much does a fluted island cost?

A typical island back of around 2.5 m² in oak, lacquered with finished edges, starts from roughly £1,000 + VAT. Use the configurator with your exact sizes for a live price.
